OGSG EXPRESSES READINESS TO PARTNER ICAN

The Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has expressed the readiness of the state government to partner the Institute of Chattered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, to engender development of the state.

Governor Abiodun gave the assurance this Monday at the inauguration of the 57th President of ICAN, Mrs Comfort eyitayo in Lagos.

The governor explained that government has carried out various reforms in its financial systems especially in the area of taxation, by harmonizing the tax system to avoid double taxation of its citizenry.

Mr Governor informed that government has also implemented funds management system as part of its financial reforms by developing a medium term efficient funds management for long term sustainability of its economy.

While commending the body for successfully regulating the standard of accounting profession being the largest professional body in Africa with over 70,000 members , the Governor said ogun state has contributed immensely to the growth of the noble body through leadership role by having many indigenes of the state holding topmost positions in the institute.

Congratulating the newly sworn-in president of the institute for the distinguished elevation, Governor Abiodun assured that government would assist the body in setting up a vocational skill centre at its ijebu resource center to attract more developments into the state.

Also speaking, the Governor of Lagos State represented by the commissioner of finance, Dr Rabiu Olowo lauded the past leaders of the body for upholding the virtue setting up the body since 1965 urging the body to join hands with the government to address myriad of problems currently affecting the nation.

Earlier, the ICAN President, Mrs Comfort Eyitayo in her acceptance speech thanked God for making it possible to attain the position and promised to continue to defend the honour of the body by avoiding things that would bring the institute into disrepute.

The President who described her new position as a call to service assured that the body would partner critical stakeholders in resolving problems of unemployment, corruption and others affecting the nation.
