Governments and other stakeholders have been charged on the need to embrace technology and innovations in the development of the tourism industry.
A lecturer in the department of tourism Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Dr Ibrahim Kukoyi gave the charge in a lecture entitled “technology and security: key factors to repositioning the tourism industry” at the world tourism day celebration organised by the Ogun State ministry of culture and tourism.
Dr Kukoyi who noted that technology should be leveraged upon for the development of tourism as it influences the decision making process in the industry, lauded the state government for its various initiatives such as the Ogun-tech hub for the training of the youths in information technology.
While also emphasising the essence of security to the development of tourism,he called on the government to continue to improve the security architecture of the state to attract investors to the tourist sites.
Also delivering a lecture on “Water transportation tourism: a shot a arm for economic development, the National president, association of tourist boat operators and water transportation of Nigeria, Dr Ganiyu Balogun called on the government to take advantage of the natural treasure through water by developing the waterways for effective means of transportation and tourism .
