Premier League clubs have unanimously decided not to release players for international matches in places on the UK’s red-list next month.

The decision has been taken so players will not have to quarantine for 10 days on their return to England.

A statement released on Tuesday read: “Premier League clubs have today reluctantly but unanimously decided not to release players for international matches played in red-list countries next month.

With the development, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will not have the full compliment of their squad when they face Cape Verde next month in a FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Cape Verde is on UK’s Red flag list based on Covid-19 pandemic meaning Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi, Ogbenekaro Etebo, Frank Onyeka, William Troost Ekong and Emmanuel Dennis will play no part in the game.

The England based players will however feature in the September 3 home tie against Liberia.
