Super Eagles Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi says he is very pained and bitter because his mother who ought to be enjoying what she laboured for died untimely.

In an exclusive chat, the Kaizer Chief goalkeeper recounts the impact of his mother on his career and how he had to go ahead with a game involving the Super Eagles thinking about his mother who was critically ill.

Akpeyi said “I remember we had a game in London when my Mother was critically ill, It was myself, Vincent Enyeama and Chigozie Agbim in camp for the friendly, I had to focus because we needed to do well”.

“Unfortunately, the sickness claimed her life, it was a dark moment for me. I miss her so much, she gave everything for me to become a known footballer, everything she prayed for is now becoming a reality, but unfortunately, she left before now”.

The former Warri Wolves and Chippa United safe hands though said her mum’s death was obviously a sacrifice to pave way for him.

Akpeyi was part of Nigeria’s squad to the 2005 World Youth Championship in Holland where the Flying Eagles came second behind Argentina under coach Samson Siasia.

He was also part of the 2008 Silver winning Nigerian team to the Beijing Olympics in China, he was also part of the squad that won Bronze at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil.
