Residents of Ogun state have been urged to always ensure proper maintenance of public infrastructure.

The Deputy Governor, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele
stated this at the Official Commissioning of a block of four classrooms, toilets and borehole, donated by a non-governmental organisation this Monday, at Saint Peter’s African Church School 1, Iyesi Otta.

According to her, projects donated for public use will serve the people longer, if residents in that community take responsibility for the maintenance of the facility.

Thanking the donors for the projects executed within two months, the Deputy Governor advised the Iyesi Otta school authority, parents and students to ensure proper use of the facilities.

Engineer Salako-Oyedele who solicited more public/private partnership in developing the education sector maintained that government alone cannot shoulder the cost of quality education.

In a remark, the Commissioner for education, science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Abosede Ogunleye expressed government’s gratitude to the Latter Days Saint Charity for the philanthropic gesture, imploring more public spirited individuals and bodies to emulate the NGO.

While presenting the block of four classrooms, toilets and borehole to the government, the Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Build a School Initiative Africa, BASIA, Dr Victor Ukorebi said the gesture was part of the organisation’s efforts to give back to the society.

Earlier, the Head Teacher of the school, Mrs Mary Oresanwo thanked the donors for the initiative, saying that the school, established in 1925 could only boast of the two blocks of classrooms built for it since then.
