The Ogun State governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has pleaded with Nigerians to be patient as the current economic downturn in the country will soon be a thing of past
Governor Abiodun made the plea on Thursday at okemosan, Abeokuta, while playing host to Commissioners of transportation from the thirty-six states including the federal capital territory, FCT, led by the mimister of transportation, Senator Saidu alkali, who were in the state for the 18th edition of the National Council on Transportation.
The governor explained that the issue of the economic quagmire is a global problem stating that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all the governors in the country are working assiduously through the implementation of various intervention programs to cushion the effects of the food inflation and other challenges
Governor Abiodun, who assured that his administration is deeply committed to Mr. President’s vision of renewed hope, promised that the state under his watch would continue to put the people first.
Commending the government at the centre on the improvementnon the railway transportation across the country, Governor Abiodun noted that the ongoing resuscitation of the narrow gauge from Ibadan to Abuja when completed would give investors, traders and the people of the country the opportunity to wheel cargo from Lagos seaports to Kano state and also help to improve trade and commerce.
Mr governor who also lauded the Minister for the bold steps he is taking to reposition the transportation sector of the country, said that the plan by the Ministry of Transportation to resuscitate the Kaduna to Kano line would further open up the country for commerce.
The governor while urging the Minister to ensure that his dream of connecting industrial zones in the country together sees the light of the day, maintained that if the plan is successfully implemented, it would reduce burden on vehicular transportation.
Mr Governor informed that the creation of the ministry of transportation by his administration has helped the state’s transportation sector stating that the state government has formulated a multi-modal transport master plan to achieve interconnectivity in all the transportation system with the aims to enhance movement of people and goods across the state
Earlier in a remark, the Minister of Transportation; Senator Saidu Alkali informed that the National Council on Transportation would address the National Transportation Policy which doesn’t exist at the moment,adding that the ministry has already submitted a draft recommendation to stakeholders to make their inputs for onward presentation and deliberation by the Federal Executive Council.
The minister who acknowledged Governor Dapo Abiodun for the great work he has started in the state promised that his ministry is ready to partner the state government towards the development of its transportation sector
