A Lot Must Be Done To Make Nigerian Football Profitable – Senator Orji Uzor Kalu

Senator representing Abia North Federal constituency, Orji Uzor Kalu has explained what Nigeria needs to put in place to make football profitable and a huge industry to make money steadily.

Senator Kalu in an interview with Nigeria Sports Mouthpiece, NSM reloaded noted that the Nigerian economy has to be stable first, while other sectors like the transport field, health and security needs to be fixed.

Orji Uzor Kalu who was the 7th governor of Abia state recounts how he was close to making Enyimba football club profitable and the subsequent obstacles.

“Nigerian football is not profitable, I was almost turning Enyimba to be profitable in 2000 downwards, but when I left, a lot of scenarios came, the insecurity in Aba, immediately I left, they started attacking Aba, all those things made it impossible.

“We don’t have the infrastructure to put football where it should be, we needed rail line, electricity, we need to have a fine transport system that would enhance easy trips for travelers to cover games”.

“These are investment we need to put in place, our people also do not have stable income. We need to stabilize the economy to get started.”

Orji Uzor Kalu was the governor of Abia state when Enyimba ruled Africa by winning the CAF Champions League.

The sports loving politician also urged private investors to play their part in sports development
