Following rising cases of road crashes in the Ogun State, The State House of Assembly, on Tuesday passed a resolution calling on the State Government to urgently checkmate the excesses of Commercial Motorcycle Riders.

This is to ensure strict compliance with road traffic laws and regulations towards curbing overloading and reckless riding to protect passengers and other road users.

The resolution followed a motion moved by the sponsor and a member representing Abeokuta South 1 State Constituency Assemblyman Yusuf Adejojo seconded by his Ijebu Ode counterpart, Assemblyman Kemi Oduwole and supported by the house through voice vote at plenary presided over by The Speaker, The Right Honourable Olakunle Oluomo.

The Sponsors posited that overloading was not safe for the riders and their passengers, thereby requesting the government to enforce minimum safety standards for the motorcyclist with passengers not exceeding two persons.

The Lawmakers also called for the enforcement of the use of crash helmet, side mirrors and number plate just as they cautioned commercial cyclist against violating traffic rules.
