OGUN HoS URGES MANAGEMENT STAFF MEMBERS TO EMBRACE TRAINING AND RETRAINING.

    The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, has charged the members of staff in the management cadre in the Ogun State Civil Service to embrace training and re-training as such would enhance their skills and commitment in discharging their statutory duties effectively.

    The Head of Service gave the charge while declaring open a two-day training programme organised by the Bureau of Establishments and Training, Office of the Head of Service, for Management Level Officers in the Ogun State Civil/Public Service, with the theme: “Sustaining the Growth Agenda in Ogun State” held at the Hilltop Tavern Hotel, Ojere, Abeokuta.

    Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. ‘Jola Oyeneye, the Head of Service said the significance of continuous learning and the transformative power that it holds for individuals and organisations, including the Civil Service is inexhaustible, hence, the commitment of the State Government to enhance the skills as well as expansion of the perspectives of the participants to fortify their leadership capabilities.

    Mr. Fagbohun said the current realities in the country have made effective and efficient management of resources more important than ever, and added that the success of government at this period largely rests on the ability and capability of its resource managers across its various Ministries, Departments and Agencies whose performance to a large extent depend on the attention paid to their capacity development.

    “Sustaining government progammes and initiatives at a period like this depends largely on availability of funds, thus, constraining the state government to evolve ways of increasing its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to be able to make meaningful impacts and these resource persons must be adequately trained with necessary knowledge and skills not only to manage the resources of the State but also to improve on its revenue generation ” Fagbohun said.

    He therefore encouraged the participants to approach the training opportunity with open mind, eagerness to learn and determination to translate newly acquired knowledge into impactful actions.

    The HoS appreciated the governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for prioritizing human capacity development and staff welfare which has culminated into continuous development of the Public Service as shown in his unprecedented approval of various allowances and bonus for the workers in the State.

    Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Bolaji Fajounbo, said the training which is the second in the series of management staff training but the first in the year 2024 is meant to improve the capacity of the participants in effective and quality service delivery as well as enhancement of increased IGR.

    She therefore applauded Governor Abiodun for his unrelentless desire for staff development through release of funds for continuous staff training across all cadres in MDAs.

    In their separate remarks, the duo of the Director-General, the Bureau of Public Procurement, Dr. Adesina Olanloye and Pastor Abimbola Alagbe, a Public Relations expert, urged the participants to take full advantage of the training to improve on their skills for increased productivity as Public Servants, while exhibiting due process in all their statutory activities.

    Among the participants, the Director, Vehicle Inspection Office, Engr. Adegboyega Ademehin, and the Director, Administration and Supplies, Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board, Mrs. Funmilayo Oshodi, submitted that the training is timely and would further widen their horizons which would help them to function in their careers as members of management in the Civil Service.

    Papers delivered at the training included “Change Management and Emotional Intelligence for Managers”, “Effective Communication and Public Speaking for Career Development”, “Due Process and Due Diligence for Effective Project Management amongst others.
