The Ogun state government will continue to make the welfare of members of the armed forces a priority.
This is necessary to boost the operations of the nation’s servicemen and women as well as honour the gallant officers who paid the supreme price for the country’s peace and unity.
Governor Dapo Abiodun gave the assurance on Sunday at the special church service commemorating this year’s armed forces remembrance day held at the Cathedral of Saint Peter, Ake, Abeokuta.
The governor who was represented by his Deputy, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele,saluted the courage of the Nigerian armed forces for being resolute in the face of contemporary challenges and equally confronting the threats to national security.
Governor Abiodun who expressed the commitment of the current administration in the state in collaborating with the government at the centre in making the armed forces operate with ease, assured that the government in the gateway state will always invest in the training of security personnel and also equip them with the latest technology for prompt service delivery.
While emphasising that it is the collective responsibility of communities, individuals, states and the entire nation to prioritise the welfare and wellbeing of the military personnel, veterans and their families, governor Abiodun thanked President Bola Tinubu for the recent approval of the sum of ₦18.4 billion to clear the backlog payment of group life assurance claims to families of dead soldiers that have been outstanding since 2011, saying such gesture will indeed provide succour to the families of the fallen heroes and boost confidence for serving officers to carry out their duties.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have been charged to embrace righteousness and and contribute towards surmounting the nation’s challenges.
The Bishop of African Church, Ilaro, The Right Reverend Peter Oyero gave the charge also on Sunday at a special church service marking the 2024 armed forces remembrance day celebration held at the Cathedral of Saint Peter, Ake,Abeokuta.
Ministering on the topic: fight a good fight, the clergyman pointed out that all citizens have in one way or the other contributed to the current disorders in the country, through various ungodly behaviours.
While noting that only righteousness exalts a nation while sin is a reproach, The Right Reverend Oyero urged the citizenry to acknowledge the commitment, dedication and selflessness of the armed forces by promoting the nation’s noble cause.
- According to the cleric, the annual armed forces remembrance day celebration will be more meaningful if all stakeholders including the government and individuals do what is expected of them for the country to attain the desired height.
