The importance of physical exercise to healthy living on Tuesday again came to the fore at the year 2022 anniversary of the Gateway Keep-fit Club held at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta with the theme ” Exercising for healthy living ”
The Deputy Governor, Engineer Noimot Salako Oyedele who is a member of the Club perfomed the ceremonial kick off of the football match between Iganmode Grammar school Ota, yellow team denoted as the Deputy Governor’s team and Baptist Girls Colege, Abeokuta white team denoted as the Head of Service Team.
At the end of the match, the Iganmode Football team of tbe Deputy Governor defeated the Baptist Girls College Football team of the Head of Service by one goal to nill.
In another novelty match between Abeokuta Sports Club team and the Keep – fit Club team , which was officially kicked off by the Head of Service, Dr Nafiu Aigoro ,the Gateway Keep-fit Club at the last minute defeated the Abeokuta Sports Club team by one goal to nill through a penalty shoot out.
The Commissiner for Sports, Dr. Kehinde Oluwadare in a remark said youth and sports development is one of the cardinal programmes of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration in the state, saying once any talent is discovered, the state government will be ready to nurture such talents.
In a welcome address, the Chairman organising Committee, Alhaji Waheed Badru observed that the exercise takes place between 6:30 am -7:30 am every tuesday to achieve a sound mind and sound body .
In a goodwill message, the President of the Club, Surveyor Godwin Ogun said the club is meant to maintain physical, emotional and mental support for members to help them cope with their busy schedules.
The event was attended by top civil servants in the state including Permanent Secretaries, General Manager of the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation, Mrs Toyin Sogbesan and the Acting General Manager of the Ogun State Television, Mr. Tunde Kazeem among others
