OGSG PROMISES TO ENGAGE PENSIONERS TO ADDRESS LINGERING ISSUES.

The Ogun State government has agreed to hold a meeting by next week with the Nigeria Union of Pensioners to proffer practicable resolutions to the lingering demands by the union

This was a decision reached at the end of a protest staged at the Governor’s office Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta this Tuesday by the Pensioners to demand for the payment of retirement benefits.

Addressing the Pensioners, tbe Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi said the meeting has become imperative for government to ameliorate the pains of the retirees.

Mr Talabi noted that the government has a lot of responsibilities with the lean purse owing to dwindling federal allocation but due to its financial ingenuity in raising its Internally Generated Revenue, it has been able to keep the state afloat.

The SSG, however informed that while the resources available to the state is increasing progressively, its financial burdens are increasing geometrically due to economic challenges confronting the nation as a whole.

Sympathising with the Pensioners over their situation, mr talabi opined that the present administration will always takes its words as its bond saying the welfare of the pensioners is paramount to governor dapo abiodun led administration

Earlier, the Chairman of Ogun State Chapter of the union, Comrade Waheed Oloyede said they had to stage a protest to the Governor’s office, to press home their demands since they have not heard from government after it set up a Committee on Consequential Adjustment and Pensions Increase two months ago.

Comrade Oloyede urged the government to assist the senior citizens by promptly attending to the delay in payment of their monthly pensions, arrears of gratuity, Consequential Pensions adjustment among others.
