EXCITEMENTS AS ZAKAT AND SADAQOT FOUNDATION, EGBA- YEWA ZONE EXTENDS HELPING HANDS TO WIDOWS

Extending hands of love to the poor and needy is one of the core values of Ramadan and it earns people more reward during the holy month.

It is on this heels that the Zakat and Sadaqot Foundation, Egba-Yewa Zone in Ogun state as part of its widows mite on Saturday distributed food items to widows in Abeokuta.

Delivering a lecture entitled ‘Coping with widowhood’ Hajiah Ruqoyah Popoola pointed out that loosing a partner is one of the ordeals from Allah to His creations, therefore the need for widows and widowers to be steadfast in their faith.

Encouraging couples especially women to engage in one source of income or the other to limit struggles if they loose their partners, Hajiah Popoola observed that psychological trauma among other factors will set in whenever such Incident occurs and that they should remarry instead of engaging in aduItery while taking good care of their children.

In an opening remark, the female Coordinator of the Zakat and Sadaqot Foundation, Egba-Yewazone, Hajiah Halimah Muhammadu-Ashiru noted that the gesture was a little way of giving to widows being annual tradition of the Islamic charity organisation.

Informing that the food items worth 20,000 naira was distributed to each of the  fifty widows



with five thousand naira cash, the Egba-Yewa Coordinator of the Zakat and Sadaqot Foundation, Alhaji Abdulrahman Anifowose  solicited the support of well-to-do individuals towards expanding charity activities, as the organisation’s widow’s support is done twice a year.

In their submissions, Alhaji Nurudeen Olajire, Alhaji Abdul-lateef Ajetunmobi and Hajiah Rofiyah Muhammadu-Awwal explained that widows should be wary of ill advice and persevere, while women should be hardworking in order to have a shock absorber when any incident occurs.

The beneficiaries including Mrs Husamot Adebayo, Fatimoh Robiu and Rofiat Akinlade in their separate remarks lauded Zakat and Sadaqot Foundation for the widows’ might, harping that the Organisation is one among few organisations in Islam that identify with widows.
