Civil Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika Tuesday in Abuja assured Nigerians especially labour unions that they have nothing to fear about the proposed conenssioning policy of Nigeria’s international airports, as the country stands to benefit more from such agreement.
At a meeting between the top echelon of the Aviation Ministry, CEOs of Agencies under it and members o the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Sirika disclosed that the proposed concenssioning of the Lagos, Kano, Enugu and Porthacourt international airports are Terminal based while other aspects of the airports are run by the relevant government agencies under the ministry.
The minister said the quantum and rippling effects of direct foreign investment in such conenssioneering agreement will serve no small measure in replacing delapitated infrastructure in the aviation industry ocassioned by downturn in the national economy.
According to the minister, the governing APC as a social demoratic entity will never adopt a policy of selling Nigerians asserts.
He further described Concenssioneering as opposed privatisation as a relatively newer concept that needed to be thoroughly understood for the policy not to be feared.
Had Sirika assuaged aviation unions’ fears of job loss when the deal evemtually falls through, and assured them that with new Terminals at the Lagos and Kano airports, coupled with Gombe, Dutse and Kebbi airports targeted to come on board soon, more employment rater than job loss is the order of the day.
