OGUN STATE GOVERNMENT IS PLEDGING CONTINUED PARTNERSHIP WITH UNFPA FOR QUALITATIVE HEALTH DELIVERY

The governor of Ogun state, prince Dapo abiodun has reassured that the current administration will continue to partner the united nations population fund, UNFPA, for qualitative health delivery in the state

Governor Dapo abiodun gave the assurance this midweek while playing host to the newly appointed Nigerian country representative of UNFPA, mrs Uila Mueller at the exco chamber, okemosan in Abeokuta

Describing UNFPA as a worthy partner, governor abiodun commended the agency for its immense support and assistance to the state in the area of maternal health, infant mortality, family planning and response to gender based violence

The governor who noted that in the last five years, the agency has continued to support the state financially and technically despite the fact that the state has reneged in contributing its counterpart funding to UNFPA, assured that the current administration would strengthen the symbiotic relationship by ensuring timely payment of the fund

According to Mr governor, the current administration will find the agency as a dependable partner in the successful implementation of its mantra of building the future of the state together and the sustainable development of the state

He pointed out that government has done a lot in the area of population and gender equality in the state through the domestication of the violence against person’s prohibition, VAPP act which led to the inauguration of VAPP management committee headed by the wife of the governor, Mrs Bamidele abiodun for full implementation stressing that work is on to develop the state action plan and its framework

He added that government is planning to set up a special court for the trial of sex and gender base violence, SGBV cases in the state

While thanking the new UNFPA boss for the visit, governor abiodun promised to improve on the health sector by upgrading the 236 primary health centres across the state through the provision of standard health facilities and synergize with the international agency for the wellbeing of its citizenry

Earlier, the UNFPA Nigerian country representative, Mrs Uila Mueller congratulated governor Dapo abiodun on his election as the governor of the state assuring that the agency would join hands with the government in addressing some of the health challenges affecting the state

Mrs Mueller commended governor Dapo abiodun and his team for being proactive in mitigating the spread of covid 19 in the state
