Arrangements have been concluded to decongest correctional centres in ogun state through the introduction of the bondsmen regulations and bondsmen licensing board.
The Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu made this known at a stakeholders meeting at the Judiciary Complex Kobape, Abeokuta while formally introducing the bondsmen regulations and bondsmen licensing board in the state.
Justice Dipeolu explained that the introduction of the bondsmen regulations is another important milestone in the state’s efforts to consolidate the gains of the current administration at improving the judicial system for the benefit of the people.
According to her, the development is timely and in line with the administration’s seven point agenda on repositioning the judicial system decongesting the correctional service centres in the state.
She added that the practice of professional surety before the Administration of Criminal justice and other related matters law of ogun state 2017 (ACIL) was greatly discouraged, as many courts have had course to convict and sentence such unregistered professional sureties.
Justice Dipeolu explained that recent statistics from the last emergency jail delivery exercise show that 80 correctional centres in the state were awaiting trial inmates.
The Chief Judge charged the board members headed by Honourable Justice Akinyemi to see themselves as lay officers in the temple of justice and therefore always cooperate with judicial officers in the performance of their duties.
