OGUN GOVERNMENT PROMISES TO PRIORITISE EDUCATION INFRASTRUCTURE

The Ogun state government prioritises education as a cornerstone of its development agenda and will continue to invest in infrastructure, human capacity development, and policies that ensure qualitative and accessible education for all.

Governor Dapo Abiodun made this known this midweek at the 5th combined convocation of the Gateway(ICT) Polytechnic, Saapade.

Represented by his Deputy, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor noted the remarkable strides which the Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic, Saapade has achieved over the years, saying the institution has carved a niche for itself as a centre of academic excellence, not just in Nigeria but across Africa, thereby reaffirming the state’s reputation as the education capital of Nigeria.

Acknowledging and congratulating the overall best graduating student for the 2021/2022 session, Ifunaya Agu,Victor Omontuhen for the 2022/23 session and Suliat Yusuf for the 2023/24 session, the governor announced a cash gift of Two million Naira for each of the students.

Delivering a convocation lecture entitled,”Polytechnic education and the future of Nigeria’s economic growth and development”, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye- Ekiti, Professor Abayomi Fasina noted that the transformation of Nigeria’s Polytechnic education system is essential for bridging the skills gap, fostering innovation and driving economic growth.

Professor Fasina submitted that by adopting strategies that prioritise infrastructure modernisation, curriculum alignment with industry needs and research opportunities, polytechnics can become powerful engines of socio-economic development, urging the graduands to utilise the skills acquired from the school to transform Nigeria’s challenges into opportunities.

In an address, the Gateway ICT Polytechnic Rector, Dr. Sanni Oseni thanked governor Abiodun for his commitment to the growth and development of the Polytechnic, adding that his visionary leadership and generous allocation of resources have been instrumental to the quality education being received at the Polytechnic,saying a total of 248 graduands at the ceremony.#
