Traffic data collection is a cornerstone of modern road safety management as it enables evidence-based policy making, adequate resource allocation and long term planning.

The Deputy Governor, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele stated this while declaring open the 9th TRACE Comanders’ Conference organised by the state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency(TRACE) held this Thursday at the Obas’ complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Deputy Governor who is also the Chairman of the state Road Safety Advisory Council noted that accurate traffic data gives room for the identification of high risk areas, implementation of targeted interventions, traffic flow tracking and optimisation of emergency response.

While commending TRACE for delivering quality service in terms of managing traffic, preventing accident and enforcing compliance with road safety rules and regulations, Engineer Salako-Oyedele urged the outfit to advance on its operations in line with modern realities including embracing innovations and building trust in the public.

She reassured TRACE of the continued support of the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration to enable it consistently achieve a robust traffic management sector for safer and more organised roads across the state.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Transportation, EngineerGbenga Dairo reiterated commitment of government to transforming the state traffic system for the benefit of all road users,urging the participants at the conference to deliberate on ways of promoting efficiency in the transport system in line with the building our future together agenda and the ISEYA mantra of the government.

Engineer Dairo pointed out that the theme of the conference is key ,given the importance of proper data collection and analysis to discovering the current trends in the sector as well as creating positive change for a sustainable transport system in the state.#
