OGUN DEPUTY GOVERNOR ENJOINS THE AWORIS TO WORK TOWARDS PRESERVING ITS CULTURAL HERITAGE.

A renewed call has gone to the Aworis to intensify efforts at preserving the cultural heritage of the ethnic group for it to take its pride of place.

The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele made the call this Thursday while declaring open, this year’s Awori Summit held at the OPIC event centre , Isheri Olofin.

Describing the theme of the summit, “Projecting Awori image in nation building” as apt, given the historical relevance of Awori, the Deputy Governor saw the need for all Awori indigenes to play pivotal roles in the socio-economic advancement of the land.

Engineer Salako-Oyedele identified leadership, education, economic development and networking as some of the key areas to be focussed on by the Awori sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora for the ethnic group to contribute its quota in nation building.

She commended the convener of the summit, the Olofin of Isheri, Oba Sulaimon Bamgbade for coming up with the initiative which according to her is strategic towards promoting unity among the Awori.

In a keynote address, a former Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Olanrewaju Fagboun called on the Aworis to collectively address issues that are critical to the existence, identity and development of the group.

In a welcome address, the Chairman of the Awori Summit planning committee, Alhaji Abdul-Semiu Yusuff expressed delight that Awori is a strong community which must be strengthened, adding that the bi-annual summit is a right step in the right direction.#
