GOVERNOR ABIODUN INAUGURATES 13 -MEMBER AGRICULTURAL COMMITTEE

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday, inaugurated a 13 member State Working Committee (SWC) of the National Agricultural Growth Scheme – AGRO POCKET, with an assurance that the State is working towards producing enough for local consumption and export.

Inaugurating the Committee at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, its chairman, governor Abiodun said his administration is committed to developing all sector of the State economy particularly the agriculture due to its potentials in revenue and employment generation as well as food security and poverty alleviation.

The governor informed that his target is to produce enough food to attain self-sufficiency in a short time and in a long time by producing enough food for other states and for export adding that his administration has recognised the immense potentials of the agricultural sector especially in employment generation, revenue generation, food security and poverty alleviation.

He said the State has identified viable sources of finance through partnership with the federal government and the African Development Bank under the Policy Based Operation (PBO), to boost agricultural production in both wet and dry seasons especially in rice, maize and Cassava production

Mr. Governor thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the minister of agriculture and food security, Senator Abubakar kyari, for supporting the state in developing its agricultural sector

Urging the committee members to deploy their vast experience towards resolving food challenges facing the nation iin agreement with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mr governor charged the committee members to buckle up as the people of the state are expecting good returns from them saying the current administration is determined in making the state the food basket of the nation

Responding on behalf of the committee members, the olota of ota, oba abdulkabir oba Lanlege commended governor Abiodun for his giant strides in developing the state’s agricultural sector especially the Odeda farm settlement which he said has kow become a cynosure of all eyes in the state

The monarch assured the governor that the committee would work hard in ensuring that it contribute its quota in resolving the problem of food scarcity currently affecting the nation
