As part of the continuous effort at rewarding excellence and promoting quality education, the Ogun state governor, Prince Dapo AbiodunĀ midweek gave the sum of 2 million naira to each of the three best graduating students of the 2021/2022, 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions of the State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa.
Announcing the cash prizes at the 6th combined convocation for the award of higher national diploma, diploma national diploma, presentation of prizes for the three sessions and conferment of honourary fellowship of the Institute, governor Abiodun reiterated the commitment of the current administration to embracing various initiatives for the delivery of quality education that produces skilful workforce.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor identified technology and innovation as two major drivers of the world, noting that technological education is key to the advancement of the state economy.
According to governor Abiodun, institutions like OGITECH will always receive the support of the government with a view to enhancing research, practical training and technological skills among students towards meeting the emerging needs of all sectors.
Delivering the convocation lecture entitled , “technological education and the realities of the Nigerian industrial advancement”, Professor Rahman Bello noted that the Nigerian industrial revolution and advancement will occur and be sustainable in the 21st century with adequate human and infrastructural resources which would be provided by the first class technological education in touch with the realities of the needs of the industrial revolution, adding that the nation’s education in all facets must be technology focused, regardless of specialisation
Pointing out that the industrial development in Nigeria will have to advance with the nature of industry template to catch up and be able to play a rewarding game in the competition ahead, the guest lecturer described OGITECH as a well placed institution to play a key role in the upcoming technological advancement in Nigeria and globally.
In a welcome address, the OGITECH Rector, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye said the institute has over the years been impacting the students with sound knowledge and values capable of placing them on a pedestal where they can compete favourably with their peers across the globe.
Thanking the governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for prioritising the institute by supporting it always, the Rector made it known that a total of 9,320 students graduated from OFITECH in the 2022, 2023 and 2024 sessions,
Among notable personalities who received the honourary Fellowship award of the institute was the wife of the governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun who described the award as a recognition of excellence and a call to promote same.#
