OGSG REITERATES COMMITMENT TO ADVANCING THE INCLUSION OF WOMEN IN THE SCHEME OF THINGS

Ogun state government recognises the indispensable roles of women as drivers of economic growth and community transformation.

It has therefore restated commitment to advancing the inclusion, uplift and success of women through various empowerment initiatives.

The Ogun state Deputy Governor, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele gave the assurance this Thursday at the livelihood collective operational flag off and handing over of livelihood collective groups of the Nigeria for Women Project(NFWP) to the ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development held at the Obas’ complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Deputy Governor who is the Chairperson of the state NFWP steering committee ,described the Nigeria for Women Project as a life changing initiative which had become an inspiration for the fulfillment of governor Dapo Abiodun’s promise to empower women across the state.

Engineer Salako-Oyedele noted that 3,700 women affinity groups have been formed under the NFWP with over 67,000 women across Ijebu North-East, Odeda, Yewa North and Ikenne local governments who have undergone comprehensive training in business skills and financial education, equipping them to overcome gender-based challenges and embrace modern entrepreneurial practices.

According to the deputy governor, 61 collectives divided into 2 rice processing hubs, 5 maize storage and linking hubs, 38 cassava processing hubs, 7 cassava/maize production hub as well as 9 tailoring hubs have been handed over to the ministry of women Affairs and social development for continued monitoring and sustainability.

She thanked the federal government for selecting the state to implement the World Bank supported NFWP as a South West representative, adding that when women succeed, families, communities and the society at large thrive.

Some of the beneficiaries of the NFWP, Mrs Olufunmilayo Egunjobi and Mrs. Yemisi Olanbiwonnu from Yewa North and Odeda local governments all expressed gratitude to governor Dapo Abiodun for protecting the interest of women and upgrading them for self-reliance.#
