RENEWED CALL MADE FOR MEMBERS OF ALUMNI ASSOCIATION TO CONTRIBUTE MEANINGFULLY TO NATION BUILDING

Members of alumni associations have again been charged to contribute meaningfully to nation building by leveraging on their number and resources to proffer lasing solutions to Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.

The Ogun state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun gave the charge this Thursday at the 2024 annual reunion public lecture of Government College, Ibadan Old Boys Association held in Ikenne.

The governor who was represented by his deputy, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele described the topic of the lecture, “Haw, what can we do’ as a timely question needed to be answered by all stakeholders in view of the challenges such as inflation, food insecurity and rising unemployment currently confronting the country, adding that old students who occupy various leadership positions also have critical roles to play in addressing the national issues at this difficult time.

Saying though the challenges in the nation are overwhelming, there is hope for a better Nigeria if the citizens, especially those occupying influential positions are determined to make a difference either by creating opportunities or championing causes that promote growth and development.

Governor Dapo pointed described Government College, Ibadan as an institution of huge legacies which has produced great leaders, saying the old boys association reunion was not just an avenue for members to share memories of old school days but also a unique opportunity to discuss ways to shape the destiny of the country.

Delivering the lecture entitled, ‘haw, what can we do’, the guest speaker, Mr. Adebisi Shonubi saw the need for all to rise to the task of making Nigeria the giant of Africa indeed, by paying sincere attention to critical sectors of the economy, especially agriculture and education.

In a welcome address, the Ijebu/Remo branch chairman of the association, Mr. Olugbenga Jaiyesimi expressed delight that the association continues to make great impact in the society at large.#
