The Federal government has been advised to embrace the United Nations resolution that countries and states should devote two percent of the budget to Survey and Mapping
This will fast track development across the country as most maps currently in use are outdated.
According to Surveyor Oyebanji Akinhanmi who gave the advice in an interview, if the Federal government can take the lead by setting aside certain amount for survey and mapping, states will follow suit.
He said the difference between Nigeria and other developing countries is that most of them are well mapped while Nigeria is not.
Surveyor Akinhanmi attributed the clashes between towns and communities in some parts of the country to the fact that most local governments and inter state boundaries were not mapped.
He said when a state or local government iis properly mapped, land allocated for farming or Industrial purposes will not be converted to residential or other uses##
