OGSG EXPRESSES CONTINUED SUPPORT TO THE JUDICIARY

Ogun state government believes that the judiciary as a cornerstone that safeguards the rights and freedom of the citizenry must be strengthened.

It has therefore expressed continued support for the judiciary as well as the legislature towards promoting a just, free and egalitarian society.

Governor Dapo Abiodun gave the assurance this Tuesday at a special mosque service ushering in the 2024/2025 legal year held at the Central Mosque, Kobiti, Abeokuta.

Represented by his Deputy, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Abiodun commended the state judiciary for playing key roles in upholding the rule of law,adding that there is a symbiotic relationship between the law and justice.

Pointing out that although the unprecedented challenges currently facing Nigeria have indeed tested the nation’s institutions and commitment to justice, governor Abiodun said the judiciary has since remained fair and independent, pointing out that the hope of the common man in the judiciary must be kept alive.

Congratulating the Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu and the entire state judiciary on the commencement of another legal year, Governor Abiodun acknowledged the critical roles of the temple of justice to the success of the success of the building our future together agenda of the current administration.

In a lecture entitled, ‘ after hardship comes ease from the lens of the holy quran”, the Osun state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke noted that hardship is an integral part of the Islamic faith, reminding muslims to seek solution to every problem only from Allah and always maintain their rightful place in him.

Dr. Agboke who emphasised that no human being is free from afflictions, called on Nigerians to believe that there will be the way out of the current socio-economic challenges confronting the country.

Meanwhile,the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called on the judiciary to maintain the dual roles of ensuring political stability and being the last hope of the common man.

Governor Abiodun who made the call this tuesday while speaking at the church service held at Cathedral of St. Peters, Ake, Abeokuta, to usher in the year 2024/2025 Legal Year, urged the judiciary to continue on the glorious path of serving the people.

The governor also appealed to the judiciary to ensure that all three arms of government work independently, but collectively within the tenets and principles of separation of powers for the overall good of the people.

He assured that his administration would continue to provide the needed support for the judiciary in appreciation of their sacrifices adding that his administration would make sure that the rule of law and all the fundamental principles of democracy are always upheld in the state

Acknowledging the importance of the sector to the enthronement of good governance, Mr governor said he would ensure the sustenance of a strong and functional judicial system and administration towards the successful implementation of the developmental agenda of the state.

Urging the men of the bench to continue supporting his administration, the first citizen of the gateway state promised that the ongoing construction of Laderin train station road would soon be completed as the provision of infrastructural amenities would also continue unabated in order to better the lots of the people of the state

In his sermon titled; “let justice flow,” the Archbishop of African Church, Most Reverend Solomon Ojumu said it is imperative for judges and those who administer justice to be filled with the spirit of God to be able to judge without fear or favour.

Reading from Amos chapter 5 verse 21-23, the cleric urged the judiciary to dispense true justice in order not to allow the oppressor to walk freely while the oppressed denied justice

While emphasising the need for political leaders and administrators of justice to turn to God to heal the land, the man of God noted that Nigerians are presently going through a lot of hardship urging the leaders to do things that would bring succour to the people.

The event was attended by people from all walks of life including members of national and state assembly, government functionaries and traditional rulers across the state
