Society of Nigeria Broadcasters elect new officers.

The Society of Nigerian Broadcasters has elected its first executive members into office.

The election took place during the 1st National Conference of the society in Abuja.

After the election, Prof Umar Pate, a Professor of Broadcast Journalism, who is also the Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State was elected as the President of the Society with 231 votes while his opponent, Mr Okoduwa Eigbebor of the National Broadcasing Commission scored 12 votes.

In his acceptance speech, the new SNB President, Prof Umar Pate promised to lift the Society to an enviable position by attracting local and international funding to run the affairs of the society.

He also promised to take the training and retraining of members as part of his primary responsibility when he fully assumes duty.

He described SNB as a professional body of Broadcasters in Nigeria and not a trade union, hence he would do all that it required to enhance the capacity building of members.

Contestants for the remaining posts were all returned unopposed.
