The Ogun State governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, this midweek, launched electric bikes and CNG tricycles under the second phase of the Ogun E-mobility programme with the aims of reducing transportation fares across the state
Inaugurating the electric motor bikes held at Arcade ground, okemosan, Abeokuta, governor Abiodun explained that the launch marked another milestone in the activities of the current administration towards achieving a green future for the state
Mr. Governor informed that over two thousand motor bikes would be distributed to kick-start the program, as his administration is committed to enhancing the transportation system of the state for economic growth
The governor explained that as part of the efforts to sustain the E-mobility system of transportation, the ground breaking of e-bike assembly plant worth forty million dollars at the gateway international cargo airport with the capacity to create ten thousand direct employment and fifty thousand indirect employment would also be initiated
He added that the Assembly plant that would help in reducing transportation fares by forty percent would be supported with a training department for youth to be trained on the maintenance of the electric bikes and tricycles adding that the investment would be divided into three phases with the first phase for motorcycles, second phase for tricycles while the third phase for e-vehicles
While urging the beneficiaries to make maximum use of the transportation equipment, the first citizen of the gateway state called on the stakeholders to partner the state government by investing in the existing opportunities available such as the telecommunications, energy and other areas of the state’s economy
The state commissioner for transportation, engineer gbenga dairo in a welcome address commended governor Abiodun for the initiative, which he said would help to address environmental problems and also enhance movement of people across the state
