The Ogun State government this midweek named a 5.7 kilometres kemta-idiaba road as Oluwole Soyinka road in commemoration of the 90th birthday celebration of Professor Wole Soyinka
Governor Dapo Abiodun made the pronouncent this midweek at a reception organised by the state government in honour of the birthday celebrator held at the Olusegun obasanjo presidential library OOPL, Abeokuta
Governor Abiodun described professor wole soyinka as a liberator and human rights fighter who contributed to the development of humanity
Mr governor said the state government decided to celebrate the ninegenerian in appreciation of his contributions to the nation’s educational development which according to him has done a lot in helping the future generations
Mr governor who thanked president Bola Ahmed Tinubu for naming the national theatre of arts and culture in lagos after the first Nobel Laureate in Africa said it was done to honour him for his promotion of african culture and traditions
Commending him for his role in achieving democratic rule in the country, Governor Abiodun maintained that Professor Wole Soyinka was instrumental to the liberation of the nation during the era of military rules promising that the state government would continue to promote the legacy of the elderstateman
Also speaking, the former secretary General of commonwealth, chief emeka anyaoku described Professor Wole Soyinka as a champion of democracy whose role in promoting humanity is unparalleled
Professor Wole Soyinka in a short remark thanked governor Abiodun for the honour done on him
The event was attended by dignitaries including the former governor of ogun state, Aremo olusegun osoba, members of the state house of assembly, members of the state executives, traditional rulers, government functionaries and members of the public
