PRESIDENT TINUBU CONFERS GCON ON AWUJALE.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu onĀ  Friday, conferred on the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland Oba Sikiru Adetona, the second highest national honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON) to mark the oba’s 90th birthday celebration.

President Tinubu made the announcement at the Olabisi Onabanjo University during the commissioning of the Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona School of Governance Studies and the presentation of a book titled, Reinventing Governance in Nigeria: The Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona Model”.

The President also informed that the school would be taken over and manage by the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru, Jos.

The president while giving the reason behind the honour said Oba Adetona has done great things for the nation and humanity with his many years of meritorious service adding that the democracy being enjoyed in the country today was through the support of the monarch

The President who was represented by his Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, noted the numerous contributions to national development, particularly in the education sector, saying he has expanded the sector through various donations and endowments.

He described the monarch as a forthright person with exceptional character who stood his ground and confronted injustice in all ramifications

Mr. President assured that the nation would continue to honour the monarch for promoting good governance in the country
