CALL MADE FOR THE ERADICATION OF QUACKERY IN ENGINEERING PROFESSION

A call has been made for the eradication of quackery in all aspects of the engineering practice in order to uphold the set standards of the much important profession in the country.

The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele made the call while playing host to members of the Nigerian Association of Engineering Craftsmen( NAEC), Ota branch, led by the First National Vice President of the association, Engineer Craft Matthew Ajayi.

Engineer Salako-Oyedele who noted that engineering is key to the growth and development of any society, said all hands must be on deck to prevent the activities of quacks which are capable of bastardising the profession.

The deputy governor commended NAEC for establishing the Ota branch of the association,urging members to always synergize with other engineering bodies,embrace continuous training and pay advocacy visits to schools to sensitise students on engineering crafts.

In a remark, the first National Vice President of NAEC, Engineer Craft Matthew Ajayii commended the deputy governor for advancing the engineering practice in the state,adding that her support towards promoting technical and vocational training, especially through Ota Technical Hub which is a platform for technological development is laudable.

Also speaking, the Ota branch First Vice Chairman of NAEC, Engineer Craft Olusesan Olorunfemi explained that the association, registered under the auspices of the Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), was established in 1993 as a professional body for craftsmen cadre.

According to him, the objectives of NAEC include; advancing the theory and practice of engineering in all the fields of engineering crafts, facilitating the acquisition and preservation of the knowledge pertaining to the profession as well as ascertaining high academic and professional standards in all the related programmes in technical and vocational schools in Nigeria.

The association,during the visit, presented an award of excellence to the deputy governor for sustaining the standard of engineering in the state.
