GOVERNOR ABIODUN REITERATES COMMITMENT TO PPP

The Ogun state government is committed to promoting public/private collaboration as well as engage communities towards providing a framework for the implementation of efficient chemical and waste management for excellent environmental governance and sustainable economy.

Governor Dapo Abiodun gave the assurance this Tuesday at the 2nd edition of Chemical handlers and users workshop organised by the state Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) under the ministry of environment,held at Providence Event Centre,Abeokuta.

Represented by his deputy, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor said the current administration will continue to take all environmental issues seriously, especially as the nation plans to shift the economy to non-oil.

According to him, government is working with industrialists and manufacturers for proper management of chemicals, by-products and waste materials for a safer economy.

Governor Abiodun who noted that the workshop, with the theme: “chemical and waste management: circular solution to sustainable economy in the state” will go along way in providing technical capacity building for preventing the negative consequences of the mismanagement and wrongful handling of chemicals.

He reminded the people of the need to always ensure compliance with the state environmental regulations and guidelines which oversee the storage of chemicals, waste management and safety responsibility within the local territory.

While pointing out that pollution knows no boundary and that the consequence of mismanaging waste affects all, Governor Abiodun lauded the federal ministry of state for environment, the National Environmental Standards and regulations enforcement agency(NESREA) as well as the Lagos state environmental protection agency (LASEPA) for joining hands with the state government to deliberate on the much important issue.#
