Executive members of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Ogun State chapter have been charged to continue to impress it upon their members that integrity and professionalism remain sacrosanct in the discharge of their statutory duties as the new year unfolds.

The Head of Service, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, gave the charge when he received in his office the executive members of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Ogun State chapter, who came on a courtesy visit.

According to him, the importance of Quantity Surveyors in the construction team was strategic, hence, they must all play their roles by rendering service diligently and conscientiously, especially with the fear of God.

He appreciated the Institute for the visit and urged them to always avert leakages and stop wastages while all their members should be encouraged to enrol into the insurance scheme of the government through its Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA) as its benefits are unquantifiable especially during any eventuality.

“I thank you for this visit as it is meant to know ourselves, share knowledge, give information and shed light on the grey areas you brought up. I want you to justify why Quantity Surveyors are needed by rendering quality service diligently and conscientiously, liase with the Ministry of Housing for collaboration when projects are being executed, while leakages and wastages must be averted”, the HoS said.

Earlier in his submission, the Chairman of the Institute, QS Ayoade Sorunke, said as a trained professional body in the area of Total Cost Management in construction services from the beginning to the end, soliciting full involvement in all the projects of the State while their services also extended to the Local Government Areas for maximum results.

He reeled out challenges facing the profession to include members’ apprehension to take up professional courses for career progression as a result of going back to entry point when the certificates are tendered, decentralized procurement procedures, having a Quantity Surveyor General in place and embedding Quantity Surveyors in all the Local Government Areas of the State.

In attendance was the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Olayiwola Abiodun, his counterparts from the Ministry of Housing, Engr. Sakirudeen Salaam, Bureaus of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye and Service Matters, Mr. Oladipupo Ogunfowora, the Ag. Surveyor General, Oladele Ewulo, and Directors..
