HONOURABLE AFUAPE IS CALLING FOR A TRULY DEMOCRATIC CONSTITUTION FOR THE COUNTRY.

There is the need for the country to come up with a truly democratic constitution that will reflect the yearnings and aspirations of the people.

The House of Representatives Member Representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Honourable Afolabi Afuape who stated this while featuring on OGBC morning flight said the country as it stands do not have a working constitution, but the document handed over by the military which has undergone series of amendments over the years.

On the year 2024 budget tagged budget of “Renewed Hope,” the House of Representatives members called for concerted efforts,saying with the way the budget is structured, it holds lots .of promises for the redemption of the country,while calling on the  people to continue to support the current  administration in the renewed Hope  agenda.

He said the budget which is the first under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is the first budget in recent history of Nigeria that the capital expenditure is more than the recurrent expenditure,saying the development is something that raises  lot of hopes for the country’s renewal.

Honourable Afuape however said putting the nation on the right path goes beyond the application of the various laws in place, but the need to vigorously pursue value re-orienattion and recourse to extensive mobilisation for national rebirth.

The House of Representatives member canvassed for a true local government  autonomy,saying a situation where the State Independent Electoral Commission still conduct the elections that will usher in the local government administration does not reflect true autonomy, saying the federal government should make the local government truly autonomous.

On the issue of corruption, the lawmaker observed that the government of the day needed to demonstrate more willingness to fight corruption by pursuing policies and programmes that will make life more meaningful for the people.

He said government can not claim to be fighting corruption when it can not give people a better alternative capable of discouraging them from engaging in corrupt acts.

Reacting to the allegations of House of Representatives members collecting 100 million naira worth of palliatives from the federal government, Honourable Afuape said he is yet to receive any money nor any palliative on behalf of the people and he will never engage in the acts of diversion of public funds.

He saidj although the Federal government intended to give palliatives to the House of Representatives members which is meant for their constituents, but the process towards the actualisation of the plan is still ongoing and is yet to be concluded, saying personally he had done a lot of empowerment for people of his constituency, without having to wait for the federal government.
