GOVERNOR ABIODUN CONSTITUTES EVALUATION COMMITTEE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF NAVAL BASE IN OGUN STATE.

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, this midweek constituted an Evaluation Committee for the establishment of a Naval Base in the State.

Speaking while receiving the Naval team from the Naval Headquarters at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, governor Abiodun overwhelmed by the zeal exhibited by the Chief of Naval Staff in setting up the team, said the establishment of a Naval Base would help to further strengthen the security architecture of the the State.

The governor who informed that the current administration has institutrd a multi-modal transport master plan to enhance transportations system in the state, said the State in the past had been longing to have a dry port and airport until his administration succeeded in building the airport, adding that seaport which has been in the drawing board for long, would also see the light of the day soonest

He said that despite the fact that operations have not started at the State airport, many institutions and corporate bodies have indicated interest to take over and run the airport noting that the state has succeeded in building one of the best airport in Nigeria.

On tongeji island, governor Abiodun informed that he had discussed with the Benin Republic President of his intension to develop the island for the socio-economic growth of the state and the nation in general, stressing that the Beninoise have been cooperating on issues that would bring development to both countries.

Appreciaing the Nigeria Navy for cooperating and collaborating with other security agencies to keep the peace in the State, the first citizen of the gateway state emphasized that the State would appreciate the posting of OPS AWATSE component of the Navy to beef up security in the State.

Earlier, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Mustapha Hassan, expressed the need to beef up security in the State as a result of slight increase in crime rate in recent times stating that the visit was a follow up to the discussion he had with the governor recently to set up a Naval Base in the State.

Also speaking, the Head of the Committee, Rear Admiral Michael Oamen, thanked the State government for the support the Navy has received in the past 25 years, emphasizing that the Chief of Naval Staff and members of the Committee are committed to the success of the project.
