The Ogun State governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has promised to put in place the necessary machinery to address the issue of gender violence in the state
Governor Abiodun who made the promise this midweek while playing host to members of 16 days of activism against gender violence organised by ajose foundation led by the wife of the governor, mrs Bamidele Abiodun at okemosan, Abeokuta reiterated that his government is committed in reducing the problem to the barest minimum by making the state a reference point in fighting against the gender violence and number one advocate against the menace
Describing gender violence as a sin against humanity, the governor explained that the executive and the judiciary would form a synergy in ensuring that proper laws are promulgated to mitigate against the problem across the state
The governor who acknowledged that gender violence has become pronounced among male and female in the country assured that the state government would provide a befitting building to serve as a shelter for people that are abused in order to safe them from the stigma usually associated with the problem adding that government would also work towards instituting a gender based violence trust funds to finance the welfare of the victims
Earlier, the wife of the governor, Mrs bamidele Abiodun who thanked the governor for his support to the women folks said that the reason behind the walk was to intimate the governor about the issue of gender violence and the.need for solution to nib the problem in the bud
The first lady urged the governor to set up a special court for the trial of the offenders in order to free the society from the dastardly act
