The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun this Wednesday described the passing away of the former Finance Minister, Dr. Onaolapo Soleye as a great loss to Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
Governor Abiodun, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, mr Lekan Adeniran, said Dr. Soleye’s invaluable contributions to the financial sector of Nigeria and the gateway state, will forever remain green in the memory.
Dr. Soleye’s remarkable career in public service, according to the governor, spanning several decades, exemplified his unwavering commitment to the development and progress of Nigeria.
He explained that as a Minister of Finance, the deceased played a crucial role in shaping the nation’s economic policies, implementing reforms, and fostering sustainable growth adding that his visionary leadership and expertise were instrumental in navigating the challenges and opportunities of the nation’s evolving economy.
The governor noted that the former minister’s demise has left a vacuum that will be difficult to fill emphasising that he will be remembered as a statesman, a mentor, and a role model for future generations to come as his wisdom, integrity, and dedication to public service was a point of reference to many people across the country
Dr. Soneye who died this Wednesday, according to the family, was a former minister of finance between 1984-1985 during the military regime of General Muhammadu Buhari.
He also served as Commissioner for Finance and Industry in Ogun State during his lifetime
