The man at the helm of affairs in the gateway state, governor Dapo Abiodun has expressed optimism that the state owned Agro-Cargo International Airport is destined to be a game changer in the nation’s aviation sector.

The governor who gave the assurance while chatting with newsmen over the weekend noted that the cargo airport with the longest runway coupled with the biggest apron and control tower is destined to be the best in the country.

Governor Abiodun said because of the modern day facilities at the airport, which will begin operations before the end of the year, many companies have approached the state to relocate there, paving the way for the airport to be a commercial success in the aviation industry.

He informed that cargo companies have approached the state government with the aims of relocating their goods to the airport having seen the size of the apron at the airport, which is 84,000 square metres which he said It is four or five times larger than the largest cargo airport in Nigeria.

He added that the Nigeria Customs Service has paid for 100 hectares of land at the airport for the construction of warehouses for the anticipated large volume of goods that will be coming into the country through the airport and to build 700 housing units for their staff adding that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has also discussed with the state government for an Air Force Base.

The governor noted that the airport was deliberately built to international standards because of its co-location in the special Agro-Processing zone saying that with the construction of the airport, Ogun State has now been opened to the outside world.
