As part of the efforts in addressing the problem of teachers’ shortage in the state, the Ogun State government this thursday approved the employment of 4000 teachers
The government, however, says that 1000 out of the existing 2000 Ogun Teach Interns are to be immediately absorbed into the StateTeaching Service Commission as permanent teachers, while another 2000 is to be employed
The state Governor, prince dapo Abiodun who gave the approval at the 2023 Teachers’ day celebration with the theme ” the teachers we need for the education we want : The global imperative to reverse teachers’ shortage held at the oba’s complex, okemosan, Abeokuta stated that the appointment was unprecedented in the history of the state
Governor Abiodun explained that his government decided to employ more teachers to bridge the gap of shortage of teachers in the public schools and also to improve on the teacher/student ratio in fulfilment of his determination to enhance the standard of education across the state as encapsulated in the ISEYA mantra
Charging the intern teachers who were newly absorbed into the state civil service to be more dedicated and committed to duties, Mr governor informed that government has also concluded plans to organise an education summit with the aims of tapping from the knowledge of stakeholders in the sector just as he said that the state education Trust fund would soon be launched to provide additional means of funding for the sector
While reiterating the commitment of the current administration in standardising the state education, the governor noted that some of the reforms introduced in the sector and improved welfare packages for the teachers were targeted at making the state the hub of education in the country
Congratulating the teachers on this year celebrations, governor Abiodun assured that his administration is committed to better the lots of teachers and compensate them adequately for their service to the humanity as the future of the children are determined through the kind of teachings receiving from them
The special adviser to the governor on education, science, and technology, Professor abayomi arigbabu, in a welcome address, while Congratulating the teachers on the celebration described them as partners in progress for helping to shape the future of the country through their teachings in the classrooms
The special adviser lauded the Ogun State teach interns for being supportive in making the state educational sector formidable
The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to best teachers and best schools in both public and private across the state
