The importance of the aviation industry to the vibrancy of the nation’s economy this Thursday returned to the centre stage at this the Nigeria/South Africa Chamber breakfast meeting held at Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event with the theme”Nigeria Aviation industry;what next” also commemorating the 30th anniversary of Philips Consulting Limited had in attendance players in the aviation sector and other related fields, emphasising the need for the improvement of Nigeria’s airways and space.
In a goodwill message at the meeting, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun restated the determination of the government to make the ongoing Agro-Cargo airport project at Ilisan Remo viable and sustainable.
Represented by his Deputy, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor expressed confidence that the Agro-Cargo Airport upon completion, will have multiplier effects on the economy of the gateway state.
According to governor Abiodun, the project is a strategic business idea of the government as it is estimated to provide 25,000 direct and 100,000 indirect jobs as well increase the state internally generated revenue.
While informing that allied industries will be positioned to complement the airport, he added that government is making a concessionary arrangement for the sustainability of the much important project.
In a keynote remark, the Aviation minister, Senator Hadi Sirika said the government at the centre will continue to give the operations of local airlines a boost , adding that all the airports in Nigeria will begin to run according to master plan for effective airport management.
In a welcome address, the Chairman, Nigeria/ South Africa, Mr. Osayaba Giwa-Osagie identified safety and maintenance standard as well as improved infrastructure as some of the basic needs at the nation’s airports.#
