Government at the Gateway State says it will continue to promote sporting activities in all schools across the state as part of its efforts in discouraging drug abuse among the students
Governor Dapo Abiodun gave the assurance this Friday while receiving members of AONIAN brotherhood led by the Chief AONIAN, Mr. Farayola Akinyemi who were in the state for the 82nd edition of 2021 AONIAN Remo sport festival at the exco Chamber, okeymosan, Abeokuta.
Enumerating the importance of sport to educational development, Governor Abiodun explained that government has identified sport as a unifying factor among the children which also helps in promoting their mental balance
The Governor while appreciating the founding fathers of the brotherhood for their noble ideas for floating the group towards the promotion of sport and education among the various schools in the country submitted that the current administration would continue to support initiative that will help student in achieving optimal performances in their studies
The number one man in the state maintained that government placed premium on the education sector as the state remains the education capital of the nation and also the homebased of free education in the country while promising that the legacy of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo in standardising education would contunue to be upheld by the current administration.
He urged members of the brotherhood to impact positively on lives of the students through their various programmes, assuring that government would continue to support them to be more proactive and effective
Earlier, the Chief of AONIAN brotherhood, Mr Farayola Akinyemi applauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for the ongoing restructuring in the state education sector, stating that the state stands out in the country in terms of teacher’s welfare and recognition
Mr Farayola while informing the governyor that the brotherhood founded in 1930 has contributed immensely in building the future leaders, said the reason for the visit was to intimate the governor about the importance of AONIAN sport festival to the development of education in the country.
