The House of Representatives has called for a radical review in the payment mode for pre-shipment inspection agents of crude to conform to conform with financial regulations and the constitution.
The Reps through its Public Account Committee Chairman Representative, Oluwole Oke described the process of payment, running into billions of dollars made to the agents from a pool of yet to be appropriated fund domiciled in Central Bank of Nigeri’s account as illegal and unacceptable.
Representative Wole oke in his rulling after engaging a number of the inspection agents at an investigative hearing in Abuja said while it was pertinent to pay agents that geniunely rendered services, the payment process should be legal and above board.
He described the current mode of payment through illegal dipping of hands into yet to be apprropriated funds as a practice that attracts prosecution and jail-terms in saner climes.
The House of Representatives, Public Accounts Committee Chairman ascribed such modes of payments to the widespread leakages noticed in the country’s financial system.
