The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on Friday inaugurated the Ogun state business environment council chaired by the Commissioner of Finance and Chief Economic Adviser , Honourable Dapo Okubadejo to improve on the existing level of investment in the state
Inaugurating the committee at the exco chamber at okemosan in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun said the formation of the committee was in fulfilment of the determination of the current administration in running the economy of the state through public private partnership, PPP by creating enabling environment to attract more investors into the state for economic development and wealth creation
The governor while explaining that government has formulated policies and reforms to engender investment growth in the state informed that the programmes have helped in assisting the existing investment to continue to thrive as.new investment are attracted through provision of infrastructural amenities, elimination of redundant and unnecessary constraints and introduction of reforms initiatives to drive efficiency, transparency, accountabilities as well as performance measures
He pointed out that during the third quarter in 2019 according to national bureau of statistics, NBS, foreign investment dropped to 5.36 billion dollars compared to 5.82.billion.dollars.in.the.second quarter while out.of 36 states and abuja, 29 states did not get any investment inflow but Ogun state was among the leading states that attracted more foreign investment during the period
Rolling out the terns of reference for the.committee, governor abiodun explained that the committee would make recommendations to improve on the existing processes with objective of removing bottlenecks,introducing key reforms and initiatives through leverage on global best practices to facilitate a private sector led investment growth
He added that the committee members drawn from major ministries would also engender sustainable reforms to bring about improved and more practical approaches towards ease of.doing business in the state.
Thanking the world bank for its support and technical assistance through the ogun state economic transformation project,OGSTEP,governor abiodun reassured the people of the state of the current administration’s commitment to the development of all sectors of.the.state.economy.
Responding, the chairman of the committee,the commissioner of finance and chief economic adviser, honourable dapo okubadejo thanked governor abiodun for the inauguration of the.committee which he said would work hard in ensuring that the present level of investment in the state would be improved upon.
The commissioner assured that all the identified impediments would be addressed so that the objective of the current administration in attracting investment in to the state are achieved for the increment in the state internally generated revenue
