For the first time in 20 years the Super Falcons of Nigeria qualified for the knockout stages of the Women’s World Cup on Thursday.

The Falcons moved to the knockout stage as one of the best losers after finishing third in Group A behind France and Norway.

The Nigerian girls will confront former champions Germany in the 2019 Women’s World Cup in Grenoble on Saturday.

The girls went through three days of agonizing wait after their final group game on Monday to know their fate.

The 2-1 defeat of New Zealand by Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses displaced the Falcons from third on the best third-placed teams table, to fourth.

The failure of Chile to beat Thailand by 3 goals gave Nigeria a place in the knockout stage.
The best performance of the Falcons in the Women’s World Cup is a quarter-final appearance in the competition in the United States in 1999
