The Ogun State government is committed to ensuring safety on its roads for improved livelihood of the people.
It has therefore expressed commitment to supporting agencies saddled with the responsibilities of maintaining road safety and saving the lives of accident victims.
The Deputy Governor, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele gave the assurance while receiving the new state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin.
The Deputy Governor who commended the efforts of the FRSC on roads across the state, especially the major highways which are often accident prone due to their interconnectivity to other states, said regular patrol of such roads by the agency has in no small measure helped in curbing mishaps and saving lives.
While charging the FRSC boss to increase enlightenment campaigns against the violation of road safety regulations, especially among the youths, Engineer Salako-Oyedele also saw the need for the command to collaborate with the government in encouraging the public transport sector to key into the health insurance scheme.
Earlier in a remark, the new FRSC Sector Commander, Corps Commander Fasakin made it known that there were 281 road crashes in the state between January and July this year out of which 179 deaths were recorded.
He however appreciated government support for the activities of the agency in the state, assuring that FRSC will always partner the government through continuous public enlightenment and education as well as the enforcement of traffic laws towards a robust road safety management.#
