Osimhen, Oshoala Win CAF Awards, Nnadozie, Super Falcons Also Get Recognition


Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen on Monday won the 2023 Africa Footballer of the year award at an event held in the Moroccan Commercial city, Marrakech.

The former Lille Metropole and Wolfsburg striker beat off competition from Liverpool talisman and former winner Mohammed Salah, as well as Achraf Hakimi who was instrumental as Morocco’s Atlas Lions became the first African Nation to reach the Semi Final of the FIFA World Cup, a feat they achieved at the Qatar 2022 edition.

Osimhen who led Napoli to their first Italian topflight title in 33 years becomes the first Nigerian to achieve the feat since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.

History was also made as Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala won the female award for a record 6th time.

Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie who was instrumental as the nine time African Champions got to the knockout stages of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand won the award for the best goalkeeper on the continent, while the country’s Women National team, Super Falcons were voted best team in the year in review.
