The Ogun State governor Prince Dapo Abiodun this tuesday gifted the best graduating students of Tai Solarin University of education, TASUED in the 2020/2021, 2021/2022 and 2022/ 2023 academic session namely Mr Sunday oluwafemi, Miss Obadina Patricia and Miss Mercy Sanyaolu the sum of two million naira each in appreciation of their outstanding academic performances
The governor also awarded the sum of five hundred thousand naira each to all the best students in the various departments and Mr Okewale Nelson the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand naira for being excelled in his academic performance under the work and study programme initiated by the school management to assist students with financial difficulties
Speaking at the 13th,14th and 15th convocation ceremony of the institution held at its campus located at ijagun in ijebu-ode local government, governor Abiodun explained that the excellent feat demonstrated by the students worth commendation in order to serve as inspiration for other students in the state
The governor said the state’s education sector has undergone different reforms under his administration with the aims of standardising and creating a conducive atmosphere for learning across the state
While promising to increase the annual subvention of the state’s tertiary institutions from two hundred million due to the global economy problem, Mr governor commended the management of the institution in the area of training of its workforce and in making the citadel of learning to be competitive among other universities in the country
The first citizen of the gateway state urged the graduating students to put into practise all the knowledge they have acquired during their academic year to better their lots and contribute positively to the socio-economic development of the nation
The Pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing council of the institution, professor rahaman bello in a remark called on the govermor to restructure the basis of funding of the university so that it can continue to grow and perform its role
Describing the institution as a flagship University of education in the country and one of few of its kind in the world, professor bello assured that the council would continue to partner the management in making the institution better calling on all stakeholders in the university to continue to cooperate with the council and the management in order to attract more development to the institution
Earlier, the vice-chancellor, professor oluwole banjo commended governor Abiodun for his financial intervention towards the development of the University assuring that the management would continue to upholds its objectives of producing and equipping graduates with employable skills that would make them employers of labour in their choice of vocation
The highlight of the event was the commissioning of the alumni building by the governor
