The federal government has assured the people of Ogun state of permanent solution to the perennial flooding, disturbing the residents of Isheri Riverview Estate in Ifo Local Government area and other parts of the state
The minister of state environment, Dr. isiak salako gave the assurance this midweek while briefing newsmen after on the spot assessment of the waterlogged estate at isheri
The minister explained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is aware of the problem, and every step is being taken to ensure that it is solved
He informed that since the causes of the problem are multifaceted, the ministry would carry out a comprehensive study to understand fully what needs to be done to address the problem from many angles
While urging people to be environmentally responsible by avoiding building on the water ways and properly dispose their refuse, he expressed optimism that with the support of the.president and proacativenes of the Ogun state governor Prince Dapo Abiodun the problem would be a thing of the past stressing that the ministry of humanitarian affairs, emergency management and social development would be visiting the estate to provide palliatives to the affected residents
Also speaking, the minister of water resources and sanitation, professor Joseph utsev informed that the federal government has set up a committee moving round the country to assess the level of flooding and profer permanent solution to the problem
Noting that the committee comprised of expertise from various fields, the minister said the ministry would draft members of Ogun state government and residents of the estate to be part of the committee in order to join hands with the federal government in providing solutions to save the nation from flooding
Symphatising with the people of Ogun and lagos states living in the flooded estate, the minister assured that the ministry is working round the clock to mitigate the challenges created by the climate change urging Nigerians to continue supporting the federal government towards ending the menace.
