GOVERNOR ABIODUN URGES CALM, SAYS OLD N500, N1000 NAIRA NOTES REMAIN LEGAL TENDER.

The Ogun State governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has prevailed on the residents to remain calm as the old naira notes of N500 and N1000 remain a legal tender across the State till December 31st in accordance with the supreme Court judgement.

The governor therefore threatened to revoke the certificate of occupancy, sanction ensure the prosecution any bank, supermarket, merchant, trader or filing station that rejects the old naira notes.

Governor Abiodun who made this known on Monday while playing host to the executive members of the state chapter of Trade Union Congress, TUC, led by its chairman, comrade Akeem Lasisi and its affiliate groups at his residence in Iperu-Remo who came to endorse his re-election bid for a second term noted that Nigerians have suffered enough and there is need to put an end to it.

The governor informed that during his phone discussion with the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele on Sunday affirmed that the apex bank has directed all the money deposit banks, MDBs, in the country to commence the disbursement of the old naira notes to members of the public to ease the suffering caused by the naira redesign crisis.

While commending the trade unions for the recognition vote of confidence on his government, governor Abiodun assured that his government would continue to be equitable, fair, transparent and obey the rule of law towards the wellness and wellbeing of the people of the state.

He pointed out that the achievement recorded by the current administration since inception is as a result of the support and collaboration of the workers, stating that effective security system being enjoyed in the state has also made it to be attractive to large number of investors.

He assured the union that government would implement all the agreement signed with the workers, promising that he would always prioritise the welfare of the workers across the state.

The number one citizen of the gateway state urged them to come out in large number on Saturday to vote all the candidates of All Progressives Congress, APC, in order to continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Akeem Lasisi, lauded the governor for even distribution of projects to all parts of the state, saying that his achievements in the health, education, security and employment generation, has endeared the governor to members of the union and are ready to cast their votes for him in the coming election.

The governor, according to TUC leader has been a blessing to the workers as most of his policies are workers friendly stating that despite the financial crisis caused by covid 19 ,the governor did not downsize or owe workers salary

He assured that TUC would mobilize its members to vote for the governor and ensure that he returns to office to complete his laudable programmes.
