The federal government has concluded plans to implement the new tariff hike of five percent on calls and data in the country.
The Minister of Finance , Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed said this on thursday at the Nigerian Communications Commission [NCC] stakeholders meeting.
She said the government would begin the implementation of the five percent excise duty tax on all voice calls , sms and data services, in addition to the existing 7.5percent Value Added tax, paid for goods and services across all sectors of the economy.
Hajia Ahmed added that the five percent excise duty has always been in the Finance Act 2020 but has never been implemented, noting that it will now be collected by the telecom operators with payment made to the federal government on monthly basis, on or before 21st of every month.
