The Minister of Communication and digital economy, Professor Isa Pantami has declared that Ogun State will in the next few years become a silicon valley.
The Minister made the declaration this Monday when members of the Nigeria Computer Society led by the Minister paid a courtesy visit to the state governor, P2rince Dapo Abiodun at the Governor’s office Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
The Minister while commending the governor for his giant strides particularly in digital economy noted that the initiatives has yielded positive results as the state now become investment hub in the country
Professor Pantami while urging the State to continue to leverage and take advantage of Information Technology so as to continue to remain as a reference point for other states, pledged the support of his ministry and that of the Nigeria Computer Society to the State at all times.
Responding, Governor Abiodun said the State was doing well in the area of IT as government has intensified efforts in introducing digital curriculum and infrastructure in the education sector in order to encourage the students to grab the knowledge of IT at early stage in life
The governor who noted the place of IT in the changing world, pointed out that his administration had to look for new ways of doing things through technology
The governor addrd that the current administration is making use of digital economy to revolutionized various sector including education, judiciary, commerce among others.stating that a digital centre has been provided by the ministry of communication and digital economy as part of efforts in creating a silicon valley in the state.
Earlier, the President of the Nigeria Computer Society, Professor Simeon Adesina Sodiya commended the state government for adopting the use of ICT in transforming government activities.
Professor Sodiya informedj that the Society has pen down Governor Abiodun for an award later in the year in recognition of his achievement in digital economy.
